5 Reasons Consignment Sales are Better than Buy/Sell/Trade

If you have never been consignment shopping, you are truly missing out. Find great quality, gently used items at outstanding prices. If you are also a frequent Facebook Marketplace, B/S/T, or Craigslist shopper, you know there are a ton of benefits to shopping consignment. If you don’t know how awesome it is, here are 5 reasons consignment sales are better than Buy/Sell/Trade groups, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist.

1. No Shady Meetups

When you’re shopping consignment sales, there is a defined time and place for every thing. With Just Between Friends in Allentown, PA, for example, you are in the well-lit, safe Lou Ramos Center, not a parking lot or random meet up site. You’re not meeting someone you don’t know, potentially with your kids in the car, making you super nervous. Whether I’m the buyer or seller, meetups with unknown people always give me pause. This is completely avoided with consignment sales.

2. No Pressure

When you schedule a meetup with someone online, it feels like a given that the item will be exchanged. But sometimes the item is not as described, is in terrible shape, or is not at all what you are expecting. Both the buyer and seller end up standing there staring at each other in awkward silence as the transaction dies. It’s disappointing for both parties. At consignment, the seller isn’t standing there staring at you while you inspect the item. There is no pressure to take the item. If you don’t want it, change your mind, or, upon inspection, find it’s not what you wanted/needed, simply put it back where you found it and move on. No awkward silences. No pressure. No guilt. No wasted time and travel.

3. No No-Shows

One of the biggest complaints on my mommy Facebook groups is no-shows on Marketplace and B/S/T transactions. You make a plan, arrange your schedule, perhaps arrange child care, drive 20 minutes to the meetup spot – just to be stood up with no explanation, no apology, and no item to take home. Not going to happen to you at consignment sales like JBF. The time is the time and you get to shop to your heart’s desire.

4. One Stop Shopping

When buying for Marketplace, Craigslist, and similar sites,  you slowly accumulate the things you need as items become available. It’s a lot of work to find everything you need for having a baby or setting up a summer wardrobe for your older kid. Find all of the gear, clothes, toys, and more in a single location. Your time is precious. Do all of your shopping at once.

5. Variety

… It’s the spice of life, right? Want several options for the same item? Maybe you want the blue version instead of the yellow version of a toy. Maybe the price is the priority and you will be happy with the item in Good used condition vs the one that’s Brand New with Tags for $15 more. There are many items that have several options, color ways, and price tags. You won’t get so many choices in one place on a B/S/T board. Compare while you stand there and choose your best match.

Hopefully I have convinced you to go check out your local consignment sale. Specifically, if you are local to MamaSavesALot, got check out the Just Between Friends Allentown/Bethlehem. March 21-23, 2018
